Strathfield Cricket Club, a cornerstone of the local sporting community, has roots tracing back to the early 1980s. Before officially becoming Strathfield Cricket Club, a group of passionate and skilled cricketers played under the banner of St. Patrick’s Old Boys. For three successful seasons, they competed in the City and Suburban Competition, which featured one-day limited-overs matches on turf. Initially, the team played their home matches at Hudson Park and was led by Dennis Kaye as the first Club President and Daryl Chappelow as the original Club Secretary and skipper. Remarkably, both Daryl and Dennis continue to play vital roles in the club today.
Seeking a more competitive format that included turf pitches, the club transitioned to the Municipal and Shires Competition in the 1982/83 season, adopting the name Strathfield Cricket Club. Starting with one team in the “D” Grade, the club combined seasoned cricketers with younger talent, quickly making a name for itself by winning the competition undefeated in its inaugural season. This early success led to an invitation to expand into multiple divisions, solidifying the club’s competitive reputation.
